An Antique & Flea Market Trip with Me

Hey there!  One of my favorite summertime activities is going to an antique/flea market.  Man, that sounds like something a member of the AARP would say.  But whatever, you guys get it.  I've started dragging Mr. Chic with me.  I reward him with some yummy fair food each time so that's why he says he goes.  But, I can tell he secretly likes it... :)

Thought I'd share some of the lovely-ness with you chicsters...

Lots of vintage goodness at this booth.

This little booth always has great styling.  I am slightly confused by the numbers though??

More from the good styling booth. :)  I love the beer stein of feathers, a great look for Fall me thinks.  Also loving the yellow flowers.  They are great fakes.

Giant faux antlers.  I really wanted one of these but they were a little pricey.

This vendor had cute painted furniture and amazingly cute clothes and accessories.  Not something normally found at the market.

Check out this amazing old couch.  It is stuffed with horsehair and is from the 1800's.  I'm pretty sure Abraham Lincoln probably sat in it... because I'm from Illinois and everything from that time period has something to do with Honest Abe around here. :)

Anyway, I couldn't believe how small this couch was.  I should've had Mr. Chic stand next to it so you could get an idea of the size.  It was tiny, as people were smaller back then (except Abraham Lincoln, who was a 6'4" giant in his day).  The seat is about a foot off the ground so sitting in it would make your knees be pretty close to your chin.  The whole sofa is barely 5 feet long.  Despite the rough shape it's in it is a really beautiful piece. I would bet it came from a very wealthy family from that time period.

These lovely rollback Parsons chairs were only $35 a piece!  What a score for someone.  The pretty barstools behind them were only $250 for the set.  Ballard's has similar for the same price for one!

The market always has lots of everything.  Even junk.  Lots of junk.  However, one of the vendor's had toys from when Mr. Chic and I were little kids.  We both got a kick out of seeing the toys of our childhood.  This building is a Sesame Street Mr. Hooper's Store.  I played with one of these for hours on end with my Fisher Price Little People, I remember the Little People house you can barely see in the pic above too.  My pre-school had it.  I had forgotten completely about it until I spotted it here.  A fun little memory at the market. :)

I hope you enjoyed this little trip to the market with me.  Next time I'll be back with more pics.  Unless you tell me this is the boring-est post you ever read and please don't do another one like it.  Then, I won't.

  3. Love this post! I remember all the Fisher Price people too. And Weeble Wobbles! Fun times! :) That's a great price on those barstools. Someone probably snatched those up real quick. :)

  4. It looks like your local flea market had great stuff. We have to drive to LA to go to a flea market so we don't go often enough for me. Thanks for let me shop vicariously through your trip.

  5. I think we all secretly LOVE to go to flea markets. If for nothing else but the memories. I love the old pail in the first pic. I can remember when my grandmother had a well on her back porch. Oh well, I"m telling my age. My daughter lives in southern Illinois about an hour north of Paducah.
    It is beautiful country.
    Have a great week, Ginger
