31 Days of Decorating on a Shoestring Budget, Slipcovers and an Impromptu Link Party

Hey there, welcome to Day 7 of my 31 day series of budget decorating.

Day 7!!

I've made it a whole week blogging every single day.  Quite a feat for a lazy part-time blogger like me.

If you've missed the first week you can check them out here:

So let's get down to bizz-ness...

Day 7:  Slipcovers

Couches are one of the most expensive decorative items we put in our homes.  Many folks on a shoestring budget have couch issues... it's the wrong color, it's ugly, it's too big/small, out of style, the list goes on and on.  The one thing about this that most shoestringer's have in common is that they don't have the budget to buy a new one or to buy the one they really want.

One option which would probably be the cheapest (besides doing nothing) is to slipcover it.  Before you get all like "No Way!"  let me just tell you that the slipcovers today are not your mother's slipcovers. :)  They have come a long way, baby.

Back in the day a couch slipcover meant a sheet looking thing sloppily thrown over your couch but that is no longer the case.  Tons of bloggers out there have made their own slipcovers with lovely results.  The Handmade Home has a great post filled with some of the best resources to make your own slipcover HERE.

She made this super-cute one...

I would love to slip cover my couches white but know, at this point in time, that would be a very bad idea.  I have two little boys and a husband (shhh, don't tell him!)

If you aren't any good at sewing you can buy fairly decent looking ones inexpensively, the one below is about $55.
