A Foyer Preview

Hello, friends! Happy weekend to you!

Have any of you used Olioboard or another website to make a "mood board"?  I don't know why they call them "mood boards", I mean, I do know why, I just think it's super cheesey, call them what they are, design boards. Thank you very much.

Anywho, I created one for a client that I thought I would share with you because I know you are all just dying to see a "mood board" today. ;)

I am helping this client with her large foyer, it is 2 stories tall with an exposed staircase and paneling.  She asked for a modern style with silvers and greys.  I came up with this....

Designed by Chic on a Shoestring Decorating

I found Olioboard easy enough to use with a big stock of items already in their library.  You can also upload your own which is very convenient.  The biggest perk is that it's free!  The only thing I didn't like was that you can not put any text on your board.  (or can you and I just couldn't figure it out??)

I wanted/needed to make some little notes on the board to my client as I was presenting it over email rather than in person.

I wanted to say that the metal-squares-thingy in the right hand corner is art, a metal wall hanging (which she requested) that comes in a set of 2 but there wasn't enough room to squeeze the other one on the "mood board".  I also wanted to say that the stuff under the table are possible accessories and we would not hide them under the table in real life.  I also wanted to squeeze "designed by COASD" on there too.

Does anyone know if it's possible to add text to an Olioboard?  Does anyone know of a similar program that has that capability?

Oh yeah, one more thing, what do you think of my "mood board"?  :)

  1. I love the mirror!!! Where oh where did you find that!? Love this look!

  2. This is incredible...I always wondered how to do this. Not that I'm a designer or anything...but I never realized there was an actual program. Duh. I'm no help when it comes to adding text. Clueless for sure. I love the grays and am obsessed with the rug. Great job!

  3. I like this mood board a lot! I've used the site before to make my bedroom mood board. It really helped me to visualize what I had been thinking of for the room.

  4. Too funny that all your comments are from people who are glad to know how to make design/mood boards. I've always wondered and assumed people were using photoshop to make them, which I don't have. I'm so glad to know that there is a free option. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks.

By the way, I bet you could put words on your design board by uploading it into Picnik and going to edit and adding text.

  5. I like Olio Board, too, but I LOVE Moodboard. It's an app on my ipad. Instead of having pre-loaded items to choose from, it allows you to do an internet search for items and add them to the board. Later, when you click on the item on the board, it brings you right to the website. So for example, right from Moodboard, I could do a Google image search for "metal wall hanging." I then look through all my options and "clip" it and it appears on my board. The things that you can put on your board are limitless.

  6. I didn't realize they had such a thing - handy and quick but I think/find they are lacking some of the key elements (like architectural details and elements, windows, doors and paint fandecks) but since you could upload your own finds, it's a handy place to find inspiration and keep it organized... Especially since they are linked to a place to purchase. I suppose it's easier/better than the old school method of foam core, cut sheets and the like! As for adding text, I couldn't see a way to do it either but since you can export the jpg, I'd just add text in Paint or another photo editor (either online or on your desktop). I didn't like the static arrangement either, but since I've spent 10+ years doing it manually, it will take time to get used to something new. :) Liked your board - it will make a sharp statement. :) Thanks for sharing!

I L-O-V-E love your comments! :) I read and try to respond to every one! Thanks for taking your precious time to leave me a comment.
