Need camera recommendations please...

Hello friends!  I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Now that it's time to get into the full swing of Christmas decor and take lots of pretty pictures for you all, one of my little guys broke my point and shoot camera. :(

I had a wonderful post all ready for you with beautiful and unique Christmas decor pictures from a locally owned home and garden shop.  I used my old point and shoot without testing it first.  Umm, bad idea.  The pictures turned out like this...

No, I'm not holding up a screen in front of the camera.  : (  Awesome...

Most of the time for the blog I use my Rebel but I need a point and shoot to fit in my purse and whip out whenever I find something lovely to photograph for my bloggy friends (or my kiddos are looking extra cute of course!)

So, bloggy buddies,  I need some recommendations for a point and shoot.  I need a camera with a quick turnaround time so I can get pictures of fast moving little ones.  I love Canon products and I want to spend under $200.  I got the Nikon S4000 but it's going back because it is so S L O W between pictures.

Any advice for me??  Thanks in advance. :)

  1. Oh, how I know how you feel. My camera broke last week and I've been using my video camera to take pictures, not good. I decided on the Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS 12.1MP Digital Camera + Bonus SD Memory Card Bundle from Wal.mart.com.to replace it. I can't give you a first-hand review (it's still being shipped), but it came recommended by two family members. It sells for $129, including a memory card, and an option to add on a tripod for around $4-6 I think. Here's the link: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Your-Choice-Canon-PowerShot-SD1300-IS-12.1MP-Digital-Camera-Bonus-2GB-SD-Memory-Card-Bundle/14521336 Good luck with your hunt. :)

  2. Sony Cybershot 14.1 megapixels for $140 on amazon or best buy. It is really small and very nice. Works well.

  3. Oh I so wish I could help you. I need a new camera terribly and haven't a clue where to begin. The husband wants to buy a quality camera for me since he's seen my love of picture taking and what I can do with my very small amount of knowledge on editing. I hope you do a post when you figure out what type you'll be getting. I'd love any information you'd be willing to share.

    Blessings,
    Shanna

  4. I love my Panasonic Lumix! It's a few years old, but still awesome! We got 10x optical zoom, which was important to me as well as the image stabilization. Both of these are great for shooting the kiddos. It has tons of special settings, and I've been able to get decent pictures in practically dark, backlit situations, and lots of other difficult things to photograph. I highly recommend it! They now make them with 12x optical zoom, and some models are under $200 on Amazon. Good luck!

  6. I agree with Janet... I use a Canon Powershot SD1100 IS Digital Elph and it's amazing. I did a lot of research before purchasing it a couple of years ago and it paid off. I check consumer reports and read a ton of camera reviews done by professionals. I too was specifically looking for an easy-to-carry camera that I could just keep in my purse and I couldn't be happier with this. I work at a company that has a department of professional photographers and after the photo chief saw my camera and tried it out he bought one for his wife. I've also had friends ask to borrow it to take take all over the world to take their vacation pics. You can check out some of my pics at apeninsulalife.blogspot.com , all the pics were taken with that camera.

    Good luck camera shopping!
