Flaunt it Friday #10 and What's in a Name??

I'm so excited that I'm about to get serious with my decorating business!  I'm preparing to launch a business website, get it on Facebook, and order some business cards.  Before I do that I need to be sure of one small detail, my business name.

Before coming up with Chic on a Shoestring Decorating I considered many other options but liked the flow of Chic and Shoestring.  However, it seems to be a little long and a few people that I've talked to have trouble remembering it.  (Maybe they're just forgetful??)

And, does everyone get that I'm talking about a "Shoestring" budget??  You guys surely do because you are smart, you must be because you're reading my blog. (wink wink).  But if it were listed in the phonebook (does anyone use those things anymore??) or it came up on google would an average person get it??

So, being the indecisive person that I am I thought I'd enlist my bloggy friends for their thoughtful opinions and great advice.

I'm either going to keep the name the same or change it to Centsibly Chic Decorating.  Get it, "CENTS"ibly??  My creative Dad came up with both of these names... thanks Papa. :)

Here are my options
1. Chic on a Shoestring Decorating
2. Centsibly Chic Decorating

In the comments, please tell me what you think, I'd really love to hear from you!

Now for Flaunt it Friday!

  1. I like chic on a shoestring budget. If people do not know what a shoestring budget is then they have never been on one. ;)

  2. altho i like the "cent" usage, there are alot of those out there. and while they convey a thrifty approach, they don't necessarily convey chic. chic on a shoestring implies we are staying on a tight budget yet also being chic, as opposed to just cheap. i hope i am explaining my reasoning clearly....good luck with this decision!

  3. I really like Chic on a Shoestring Decorating ...it says exactly what it is. What miss corner cape says sums it up perfectly.

  4. I love chic on a shoestring decorating the best! I think that's very clever! thanks for hosting the linky party:)

  5. I like the chic on a shoestring the most as well! Thanks for hosting the party.
I would like to invite you to my first ever link party. It's a garden party for outdoor/garden or summer projects. I'll have some fin giveaways too. Details are on my blog.
    Hope to see you there!

  6. I like the name Chic on a Shoestring. I wonder if Centsibly might be trickier to find because people might try to spell is with an s and not find it... just a thought

  7. came by to see your post for all thingz related, and found you have your own party.
Joining in. will get you button up on my blog right away.

    thanks and blessings

  8. I know what you mean, I had several options when I started up my blog and I'm still not sure I chose the best... If you wanted to shorten your current name, you could call it: Shoestring Chic... Good luck!

  9. Hi!
I like Chic on a Shoestring Decorating, too! It's just YOU!
Blessings on your new venture--I have been a certified interior decorator, stager, organizer since 2000. I stopped working in 2009, to stay home more and get my homeschooled girls off to college- one down, one is a rising 10th grader.
So, in a few years, I'll be back.
AS far at people searching for the word "Shoestring", they won't. You have to have other tags on google search engine.
Blessings to you on your new venture!
Be prepared to work hard, but also be prepared to love it!!

  10. My suggestions...you could shorten it to "Shoestring Chic" and then have a line beneath with a little blurb. Try to come up with some graphic that people will remember. In my case I think my blog name is way too long but people totally remember the blue balls, lol! Go for it, you can't get to where you want to be if you never start the journey.

  11. I have had the EXACT same problem (with my blog name--and being completely indecisive!!) But I really do like the name you already have! And when I researched changing my name there were a lot of things to look out for--when you change your URL then you loose your history in the search engines and will be starting from scratch! As well as making sure everyone follows you to your new spot...just some things to think about. BUT--if you ARE unhappy with your name--do it sooner than later--I did--and I am super happy that I did it before I got bigger (I only had 3 followers at the time--not that I'm much bigger than that now!) Good Luck! (thisthriftyhouse.blogspot.com)

  12. I agree with the group above! I LOVE what Katie had to say, "if you don't know what a shoestring budget is you've never been on one"! I also am not a fan of spelling a business name with a phrase like, "Centsably" because it is hard to find if you are looking for it by name. People would need to remember the spelling to find it. If you googled, "Shoestring" decorating, you would find it, or if you googled "budget+chic" you could probably find it. JMHO!

Good luck with your new endeavor!!

  13. Hey, this is my first time here and I love your blog! I love Chic on a Shoestring. I have to look back 5 times to remember centsi-. It's all about being able to spell. Google can only correct so much.Good luck!

  14. I like Chic on a Shoestring...it flows better, and I agree that the other one is tricky to spell.

Another thought - rather than a traditional website you might want to just move this blog over to Wordpress (self-hosted) and make it a component of your new business site. You can do anything on WP you can do on a regular website, plus it's easier to maintain yourself. You have some good momentum going here, and it would be great for your potential clients to be able to see your creative ideas. Blogs are so much more dynamic than regular sites.

I L-O-V-E love your comments! :) I read and try to respond to every one! Thanks for taking your precious time to leave me a comment.
